Life Sciences and, within those, Medicine, are extremely complex fields, and specialists spend decades studying and learning them. However, research accomplishments and news in those fields are affecting every single person in societies globally. As a medical doctor, I understood early in my career that translating the technical terminology into everyday language is a challenging but extremely important task. We all deserve information delivered in a transparent and understandable way, ensuring the success of treatment and healthcare measures and raising trust and awareness of the importance of science and research for all of us.
With my current studies, “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health,” I have embarked on a journey into a field with such potential and consequences, the merits of which are not yet fully understood. Research can be fast-paced, seeing new discoveries and accomplishments nearly daily. Innovations and their potential risks need to be communicated to the public honestly and clearly. By choosing the module “Communicating Science”, I hope to improve my ability to communicate complex information, not only in my doctor-patient relationships, but to the wider public. Especially speaking in front of a crowd always causes anxiety and unsettled feelings, which I want to combat and turn into something engaging and enjoyable. I am particularly looking forward to the Science Journalism lecture and Science writing workshop, aiming to improve my skills in these areas and build a solid foundation for a career in scientific and medical writing
